The weather is starting to warm and the lovely Spring and Summer fashion is starting to appear. With that comes the festivities and events to wear those pretty dresses, which also means bearing the legs. As we all know suntanning is bad for your skin. These days there are other options available. Spray tans can look great if you have an experienced operator and youthful skin. I have had many of these over the years, particularly as I am a retired Beauty Therapist. I myself gave an excellent spray tan. But now I am of a more mature age and my sunbathing years have caught up with me. I have found that spray tanning is not the best option for a mature skin. When you first have the spray tan it looks great but the next day and subsequent days following it’s not so good. Particularly on aged skin as it tends to grab to all the little dry spots on your skin. Particularly the brown age spots making them darker and more apparent. Gradual tanning lotions work in the same way, when it comes to ageing skin.
Then there is the smell and they all smell as they start to take effect. Some more than others no matter how tropically divine it smells in the bottle. Then there’s the orange factor which many brands can produce. I’m not a fan of the oompah loompah look or having my feet look dirty either! The active ingredient in most tans is DHA (dihydroxyacetone) It works by reacting with the dead surface layer of the skin, it is deemed to be harmless but some people are allergic to it. To be honest, I would be looking for a spray tan without DHA in it. Also whilst in the spray tanning booth, I would recommend you wear a mask. Otherwise, the inside of your nose will also be covered and this also means you are breathing it in.
As you age the skin on the body, as well as the face becomes dry and scaly patches appear with pigmentation or as some call them ‘age’ spots. So for us more mature girls, a spray tan is not the best option. Most of us aren’t planning on wearing a bikini this summer and will probably only be showing our extremities.
Spray Tanning Alternative
A few years ago I found an answer to bearing my white legs over the warmer months. I remember my mother using a similar product back in the early 70’s so this is nothing new. This product is much more advanced than the one she used all those years ago. It’s called loving tan deluxe body makeup and comes in three colours. The medium colour suits many skin types. I mostly just use it on my legs but sometimes on the arms and the décolletage. The advanced colour formula mimics your natural skin tone. It provides a quick and easy option to build your desired colour. It drys in 60 seconds and gives you instant result. Giving you a satin finish and coverage for those ugly spots that try to define us.

Perfect for special occasions
Application Process
It’s easy enough to apply, more so than other products that come in an aerosol can. Which make a mess and are harder to get even coverage. I usually exfoliate beforehand, I’m a fan of the loofah gloves in the shower, these are available at the supermarket. Then using a pair of disposable gloves just rub it into the skin. As I said I usually put it on the lower legs and it’s great for covering flaws in the skin such as pigmentation spots, small spider veins and scars and stretch marks.
Depending on the colour and coverage that you wish to achieve you can apply multiple coats if you want. I find that one coat is usually enough. You only need a small amount about a 5 cent piece size for your lower legs.
A Big Plus
A great feature of this product is that is waterproof and it doesn’t come off on your clothes, a big improvement on the product Mum used. It lasts 2 or 3 days or until you wash it off with soapy water and a loofah helps to remove it thoroughly. I have worn it out on occasions and gone straight to bed when I got home, with it still on. I thought I’d get up the next morning to find it all over my white sheets, to my surprise it was right where I put it, on my legs!
I’m happy to now have it in store so when styling my customers I now have the remedy for the little leg that might show with their new outfit. It comes in 3 colours Light, Medium and Dark as I mentioned the medium suits most light to medium skins giving a beautiful instant tan.
If you are a spray tan fan then that’s okay too because this product is perfect for covering your residue tan before heading out. Covering the patches that you are left with after a few days and rather than applying more fake tan over the top and making a real mess of.

Loving Tan Body makeup
Ingredients
Its free of DHA, paraben, alcohol and aerosol, it’s not drying to the skin and contains some antioxidants and organic ingredients. Also, it’s not tested on animals, so it ticks all the boxes. It comes in a 50ml tube, it’s a great price point and a little goes a long way.
So if you need some instant leg colour or spray tanning isn’t your thing, this is your answer.
If I come across any other great products that I love and use I will certainly be sharing them with you.
